Join Day & Zimmermann as a Mechanical Engineer 4 supporting Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Tonopah, AZ. In this onsite role, you’ll apply your mechanical engineering expertise to complex, mission-critical projects that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of one of the nation’s most important nuclear power facilities.
You’ll lead mechanical engineering efforts from front-end engineering design through detailed design and construction support. Your responsibilities will include developing comprehensive scopes of work, preparing equipment specifications and data sheets, maintaining detailed equipment lists, and coordinating with vendors to ensure project requirements are met.
As part of our MC Engineering Operations Services division, you’ll collaborate with experienced engineering and design professionals while supporting multiple projects and maintaining high-quality engineering standards. As the Mechanical Engineer 4, here's the work you'll do:
- Lead and mentor a dynamic team of engineers and designers, overseeing engineering and design activities for multiple complex projects across diverse clients, ensuring high-quality deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Develop innovative conceptual mechanical designs, critically evaluating alternatives based on constructability, performance, energy efficiency, durability, reliability, ease of maintenance, operational simplicity, initial and life-cycle costs, and environmental considerations.
- Manage mechanical scope changes diligently, ensuring project deliverables are completed within allocated budgets and timelines without compromising quality or compliance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams including civil, electrical, and process engineers, as well as construction managers, site personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless project integration and communication.
- Formulate and review detailed work plans, accurately estimating staffing needs and schedules to optimize resource allocation for assigned projects and teams.
- Perform rigorous review and approval of engineering drawings, detailed calculations, and technical specifications, ensuring adherence to established company procedures, industry design standards, contract requirements, and budget constraints.
- Apply professional engineering judgment and when authorized, apply PE stamp on engineering deliverables, reinforcing quality assurance and accountability.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
- Expertise in developing thorough equipment specifications tailored for a variety of mechanical equipment and integrated equipment skids to meet project requirements.
- Strong vendor management skills, including partnering to select the most suitable equipment, negotiating specifications, and ensuring compliance with project standards and operational needs.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software to develop detailed mechanical designs that support project deliverables and engineering accuracy.
- Experience in preparing detailed equipment cost estimates for capital budgeting and overall project cost control, contributing to financial planning and commercial success.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite coupled with the ability to adapt quickly to evolving software tools and technologies critical for engineering documentation and communication.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills enabling clear, concise, and effective interaction with a wide array of stakeholders including team members, clients, and vendors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on practical and innovative engineering solutions within project constraints.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, ensuring foundational and advanced engineering knowledge.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience demonstrating increasing responsibility and technical expertise.
- At least 6 years of direct experience in the EPCm industry
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $114,960 - $172,440. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
