As a Mechanical Engineer 4 at D&Z, you will apply advanced mechanical engineering expertise to complex projects across the chemical and related process industries. This role encompasses the full project lifecycle—from concept development and front-end engineering through detailed design and construction support.

You will develop detailed scopes of work, specify equipment and materials, prepare technical data sheets, manage vendor relationships, and conduct thorough bid evaluations. Your work will ensure that engineering solutions meet technical requirements while aligning with project schedules, budgets, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

This position offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams and influence critical design decisions that improve project execution and operational performance. Through innovative design approaches, sustainable practices, and cost-effective solutions, you will help advance D&Z’s commitment to engineering excellence and client satisfaction.

Join us in collaborating with project stakeholders, vendors, and site personnel to support seamless project execution and deliver exceptional engineering outcomes. Your expertise will play an important role in strengthening D&Z’s reputation as a trusted partner in EPCm services and chemical process engineering.

As the Mechanical Engineer 4, here is the work you'll do:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers and designers, overseeing multiple complex projects to ensure high-quality mechanical engineering deliverables that comply with company and client standards.
  • Develop and assess innovative conceptual mechanical designs by evaluating alternatives based on constructability, performance efficiency, cost analysis, environmental impact, and lifecycle considerations, ensuring optimal solutions aligned with project goals.
  • Effectively manage scope changes within the mechanical discipline to maintain alignment with approved budgets and project timelines, demonstrating proactive problem-solving and resource coordination.
  • Coordinate cross-disciplinary project activities among engineering departments, construction teams, site personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to foster collaboration and maintain project cohesion.
  • Prepare, review, and validate detailed engineering work plans, resource allocations, and project schedules to support efficient team performance and project delivery.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews and approvals of engineering drawings, technical calculations, and specifications, ensuring strict adherence to established design standards and regulatory requirements; apply professional engineering stamp where applicable.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and technical leader, providing guidance on mechanical engineering best practices and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Expertise in developing precise equipment specifications and detailed data sheets for a variety of mechanical systems and equipment skids, tailored to project-specific requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in vendor engagement and evaluation to identify and select equipment solutions that meet technical, quality, and budgetary expectations.
  • Advanced skills in using SolidWorks CAD software to create accurate and comprehensive mechanical designs and assemblies.
  • Experience formulating detailed equipment cost estimates supporting capital budgeting and financial planning processes, contributing to reliable project cost controls.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and capable of adapting quickly to new software tools to enhance productivity and data management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear articulation of technical concepts, project updates, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities coupled with a detail-oriented approach to quality assurance and project execution.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage priorities effectively, and work independently under limited supervision, maintaining focus on project objectives and deadlines.

And if you have these qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required, demonstrating a solid foundational knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering roles, showcasing a history of increasing responsibility and technical proficiency.
  • At least six (6) years of hands-on experience within the EPCm (Engineering, Procurement, Construction management) industry or in operating companies closely aligned with the chemical process sector, such as Munitions, Petrochemical, Chemical Intermediates, or Fibers Industries.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure is highly desirable, underscoring the commitment to engineering ethics and professional standards.
  • Demonstrated continuing education and professional development in mechanical engineering and related disciplines to remain current with industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Strong commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship throughout project lifecycles.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and a collaborative work environment focused on delivering complex, large-scale engineering projects.
