Job Description: 

As a Mechanical Engineer here's the work you'll do

Works under supervision of more senior engineers to complete project tasks such as drawing production, calculations and equipment selections. The position represents developing junior staff in training. 

 

This role is in office in our Lexinton, KY, Huntsville, AL, or Glen Allen, VA location.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and editing drawings 35%
  • Perform engineering calculations. 30%
  • Performs selections and schedules simple equipment 15%
  • Supports construction phase contract administration activities such as Submittals, RFI's, construction support, etc. 10%
  • Perform other duties supporting senior engineering staff, as assigned. 5%
  • Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data 5%

  • Position is gaining understanding of the industry and developing ability to complete tasks successfully and with progressively less guidance. Growing responsibilities include design coordination and constructability as well as gaining introduction to project costs. Participates in coordination of work with other disciplines.
  • Gaining mastery over production processes, design and calculations tools is essential. Proficiency with drawing production software (CADD, BIM, Revit). Proficiency with calculation and software tools used in department Expected to develop competency selecting equipment and skill with system layout/design as they are exposed on a project by project basis. Data privacy, information security and policy compliance
  • Understands contract administration project phase and is competent supporting CA efforts for assigned projects as well as additional CA efforts supporting other engineers.
  • Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results.
  • Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. And, maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed. Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within department.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Engineering Required
  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) in Engineering Preferred
  • entry level

 

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $67,040 to $100,560. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
