Job Summary

The Team Manager, Life Safety Engineering role is a management position responsible for overseeing engineering design, project coordination, and technical mentorship for a small team within the department. In addition to performing duties as a licensed Professional Engineer, this role includes project oversight, technical guidance, workflow coordination, and administrative responsibilities such as timesheet approvals, performance reviews, and participation in professional development processes. Team Managers will have visibility to direct staff compensation information.

 

This role will be in office with a hybrid schedule in our Glen Allen, VA office.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical design and provide guidance on specifications, reports, and production drawings/models. 
  • Review designs and production drawings/models for assigned projects; may conduct Independent Technical Reviews (ITRs). 
  • Support project managers and clients through meetings, reviews, and direct discussions to ensure project success and client satisfaction. 
  • Mentor and train engineers and designers to enhance technical and professional growth. 
  • Oversee project assignments and ensure alignment of engineering resources in coordination with department leadership. Review and approve timesheets, conduct performance evaluations, may participate in hiring and interviews, and provide input into compensation decisions. 

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Proven knowledge of Life Safety engineering analysis and design
  • Ability to create and present ideas to clients in form of drawings, renderings, and other exhibits
  • Knowledge of Business Development process and completing RFP responses.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with market leaders, project managers and engineering disciplines both internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to lead, ensure work is effectively delegated, and direct others in production of engineering projects to be an effective manager and hold people accountable for performance.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance; therefore, U.S. citizenship is required under applicable federal regulations and contract terms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) ABET accredited degree in relevant engineering field. Required
  • 10+ years Plus 1 year of supervisory experience. Required
  • Relevant fire protection engineering experience. Required

 

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the hourly pay range for this role is $136,480- $204,720. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
