Job Summary
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned fire station and apparatus operations in coordination with the Assistant Fire Chief. Plan station priorities, direct assigned personnel, and support policy, goal, and procedure implementation for the platoon.
- Determine maintenance and repair needs for firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue, and related emergency response equipment, and coordinate repair processes to support shift readiness and emergency response capability. Assign and manage inspection activities for hydrants, alarm boxes, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, apparatus, and assigned facilities in coordination with fire inspection personnel, ensuring required follow-up actions and documentation are completed.
- Determine the appropriate emergency response approach for assigned shift incidents, including fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials events, rescue situations, and other depot emergencies. Assign and direct Firefighter/EMT crew members, apparatus, equipment, and response priorities in accordance with emergency response procedures, using discretion and judgment to assess incident conditions, allocate resources, adjust crew assignments, and maintain command accountability until relieved or transitioned under the applicable incident command structure.
- Provide instruction and coaching for emergency response activities, including firefighting, hazardous materials response, confined-space rescue, fire prevention, and building inspection support. Reinforce safe work practices, equipment readiness, and operational compliance.
- Support Fire Department operations, records, reports, schedules, and administrative requirements. Assume Assistant Fire Chief duties when assigned to maintain continuity of fire department operations.
- Report potential or known safety and environmental concerns to the appropriate personnel or department. Maintain high ethical standards and follow Company policies, safety requirements, and the Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Fire protection and prevention knowledge sufficient to support station operations, inspections, emergency response, and fire prevention activities.
- Emergency incident leadership capability sufficient to direct assigned crews, serve as Entry Team Officer, and assume command until relieved.
- Knowledge of firefighting, hazardous materials, rescue, and emergency response equipment sufficient to inspect, maintain, and coordinate readiness.
- Training and instruction capability sufficient to support firefighting, hazmat response, confined-space rescue, and fire prevention training activities.
- Planning and scheduling capability sufficient to coordinate station staffing, training, apparatus readiness, inspections, and assigned projects.
- Safety and compliance awareness sufficient to perform emergency response and station duties in accordance with Company, contract, and governmental requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- 2+ years of firefighter experience with broad knowledge of fire protection/prevention, emergency response equipment, and Hawthorne Army Depot layout.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain all certifications required by the Master Training Plan. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification. NIMS 300 and NIMS 400 certifications required.
- Valid State of Nevada Class B CDL driver’s license with “F” endorsement required. Must be able to obtain and maintain required government security clearance, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives clearance, and favorable NCIC III vetting a required.
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the hourly pay range for this role is $67,200- $100,800. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
