We’re looking for a full-time, staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Mason & Hanger team
As the Mechanical Engineer, here’s the work you’ll do:
- Creating and editing project documents to include Drawings (CAD / BIM), Specifications (editing and checking) and support documents (basis of design).
- Perform engineering calculations using full suite of software tools. Performs selections and schedules simple and complex equipment (example: air handling units, chillers).
- Developing ability to comprehend and document required BAS controls (schematic, points list, sequence of operations, specifications).
- Developing ability to direct designer staff in production of drawings & details. To include marking-up and redlining drawings for others and assuming ownership of delegated tasks.
- Aide construction phase contract administration activities such as Submittals, RFI's, construction support, etc.
- Perform other duties aiding senior engineering staff, as assigned. Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
- May have primary development in a single discipline (mechanical HVAC or plumbing), and is expected to actively seek and develop competency across both disciplines. Developing command of typical department responsibilities is necessary in progression towards more senior engineering positions. Performs engineering calculations competently and efficiently. Selects equipment, create schedules and edit specifications. Highly proficient with drawing production software (CADD, BIM, Revit) and calculation / software tools used in department. - Begin to assume client facing responsibility as mechanical department representative at internal and external project meetings. Ability to create and present ideas to clients in form of drawings, renderings, and other exhibits. Limited travel may be required.
- Gaining competency partnering with all design-construction project members. Project deliverables are well coordinated with other disciplines, constructible and punctual. Ability to coordinate and communicate with architects and engineers both internally and externally. Understands project cost throughout the design. Accountable for aiding mechanical CA responsibilities for assigned project.
- May function as the Responsible Engineer Of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of some mechanical department project deliverables for a project – limits of responsibility to be determined in concert with more senior department leadership.
- Must build reliable relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, in charge seeking out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. And, maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out assistance where needed. Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within department/company. And if you have these qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 4 - 8 years (Positions are awarded based on staff competency, years of experience listed for reference only.)
- LEED AP certification preferred.
- EIT required & PE preferred
- Ability to obtain PE required
- Position will be titled “Engineer-In-Training” if PE is not obtained, or “Engineer” if PE is obtained.
- Staff will convert to Designer Track if PE is not obtained after 8-years of professional experience. Designer title will be chose based on staff capability. Staff may convert back to Engineer Track thereafter by obtaining PE license U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance required.
- US citizenship required. Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $71,120 - $106,680. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
