Job Summary
The Sr. Analyst, Data Governance at Day & Zimmermann, Inc. plays a critical role in elevating the enterprise's data governance framework to ensure superior data quality, integrity, and consistency across multiple business systems. Reporting directly to the Director of Data Governance & Projects, this position demands a combination of technical expertise in data analysis and comprehensive knowledge of data governance principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and rectifying data quality challenges, conducting root cause analyses, and driving sustainable improvements that foster increased confidence and trust in enterprise data.
Serving as a pivotal link between business and IT teams, the Sr. Analyst will work hands-on with complex datasets, utilizing advanced SQL querying skills, validating critical business rules, and supporting Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives. Additionally, this role contributes to the development of governance metrics, dashboards, and reporting tools that underpin key enterprise decisions, drive analytics efforts, support ERP modernization, and facilitate AI projects. The Sr. Analyst will be instrumental in promoting best practices in data governance and enhancing enterprise-wide data strategy and operations.
Beyond technical responsibilities, the role offers an opportunity to participate in shaping a data-centric culture within the organization and influencing data-related business processes that are vital for strategic growth. The Sr. Analyst will collaborate across departments, ensuring effective stewardship and governance of crucial data assets, reinforcing Day & Zimmermann's commitment to data excellence and innovation.
As the Sr. Analyst, Data Governance, here is the work you'll do:
- Collaborate closely with Business Data Owners and Data Stewards to define, implement, and enforce comprehensive data governance standards, stewardship roles, and ownership models throughout the enterprise. This includes establishing clear business rules and accountability frameworks.
- Conduct advanced data profiling and quality assessments across diverse enterprise platforms using SQL and enterprise-grade reporting systems. Identify anomalies such as duplicates, completeness gaps, and inconsistencies, ensuring validation of business rules and regular tracking of governance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Design, develop, and sustain interactive data quality dashboards and scorecards utilizing Power BI or equivalent visualization platforms to provide real-time insights into data governance effectiveness and quality trends.
- Perform thorough root cause analysis of complex data quality issues, tracing back to business workflows, technical system configurations, integrations, and data flows. Lead and coordinate remediation activities with stakeholders across business and IT units, ensuring corrective actions are validated via data-driven approaches.
- Recommend and implement process automation opportunities, enhanced validation rules, and governance controls aimed at reinforcing long-term data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
- Manage governance for high-value master data domains including Customer, Vendor, Employee, Material, Project, Asset, and Organizational data. Define and uphold business rules, approval workflows, reference data standards, and Golden Record concepts to maintain data consistency and integrity across interconnected systems.
- Maintain business glossaries, metadata repositories, Critical Data Elements documentation, and data lineage models necessary to support transparency and accountability within the data governance framework.
- Generate comprehensive governance reports and executive-level presentations to articulate data quality trends, stewardship performance, and program maturity to organizational leadership.
- Serve as a subject matter expert advising cross-functional technology teams on leveraging governed enterprise data for reporting, advanced analytics, ERP modernization, automation strategies, and AI-powered initiatives.
- Continuously evaluate emerging tools and technologies related to data governance, metadata management, and data quality, providing strategic recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and scalability of the Enterprise Data Governance Program.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL querying to analyze and profile extensive, complex enterprise datasets across relational databases, with the ability to perform validation, reconciliation, and detailed root cause data quality investigations.
- Deep understanding of Data Governance best practices, frameworks, and tools, including practical experience with Master Data Management (MDM), metadata management, development and maintenance of business glossaries, data lineage tracking, and monitoring of Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
- Advanced skills in Power BI or comparable business intelligence platforms for designing insightful dashboards and reports, complemented by strong Microsoft Excel capabilities such as Pivot Tables, Power Query, XLOOKUP, and complex formula creation for data transformation and analysis.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems such as SAP, Salesforce, and Bullhorn, alongside solid knowledge of ETL processes, API integrations, data migrations, and the architecture of enterprise data flows.
- Ability to translate broad business data requirements into precise technical solutions, supporting enterprise-wide reporting, analytics, ERP modernization, automation workflows, AI applications, and advanced data science projects.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills to effectively manage competing priorities between business units and IT teams. Experience with data governance platforms like Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, or Informatica is highly desirable, along with familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell to automate and enhance data governance operations.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Data Analysis, Master Data Management (MDM), Business Intelligence, ERP applications, or Data Engineering disciplines.
- A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Information Management, or Business Analytics is preferred and considered an asset.
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $91,600 - $137,400. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
