As the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist, here’s the work you’ll do:

This position is for an EHS Specialist with the talent and experience needed to manage various EHS programs at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant (MLAAP) to include such items as environmental sampling, inspections, reporting and, program review/development. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company regulations.

 

  • Coordinate assigned phases of Health and Safety Programs in designated areas of Plant operations and recommends safety procedures to provide a safe working environment that will promote Plant safety, employee wellbeing and productivity.
  • Perform inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with permit requirements and other procedures and environmental requirements. Develop and maintain schedules for inspections and ensures inspections take place.
  • Prepare reports to meet regulatory and permit requirements for environmental programs onsite, such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and of the Clean Water Act (CWA) permits. Prepare permit applications and permit modifications for the hazardous waste and wastewater programs and other permits.
  • Assist in the preparation of required Health and Safety reports and assures that appropriate supporting records are maintained. Must be capable of preparing and implementing detailed Process Safety Management Plans and Process Hazard Analysis and able to communicate these concepts to affected employees.
  • Study accident hazards and health risks (industrial safety, explosive safety, special hazards, medical aid, etc.) and mandate necessary preventive or corrective measures, procedures, mechanical guards and protective equipment and clothing. Conduct regularly scheduled inspections of explosive production buildings, industrial work areas, administrative buildings, subcontractor work sites, and AO work sites along with other duties as assigned.
  • Proactively interface with Government Regulators, Army Staff Personnel, Site Manager, Security / Fire Chief, Maintenance Supervisor, Project Engineer, EHS Manager, Disposal Team Manager, Disposal Team Operators, Subcontractors, Contractors and Equipment Vendors. Provide mentorship in promoting behavior-based safety by providing technical guidance to engineering, supervision, managers, and hourly bargaining employees.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as environmental, health and safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Strong skills in environmental fieldwork and knowledge of implementing environmental regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple duties simultaneously. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

And if you have these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university, preferably in a scientific field such as Environmental Science or Occupational/Industrial safety & health.
  • 3+ years must have prior training/experience in safety; additional training/experience in environmental programs is preferred.
  • HAZWOPER Training is Required, OSHA 30 hour preferred.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Explosive safety experience and/or environmental compliance experience is preferred.
  • Great attitude and team player.
  • Successful completion of background screening process.


In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $59,600 - $89,400. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
