As a Stationary Engineer in Training, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our steam plant systems. You’ll monitor and regulate boilers, emissions control, and auxiliary equipment to maintain optimal performance and environmental compliance. This hands-on role requires strong technical ability, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety. Ideal candidates bring experience or training in boiler operation, mechanical systems, or a related technical field, along with a positive, team-oriented attitude. As the Stationary Engineer in Training, here's the impactful work you'll do:
• Operates steam plant control board and regulates equipment, according to procedures and information obtained from recording and indicating instruments.
• Operates emissions control equipment and monitors emissions to ensure environmental conditions are recorded and regulations are compiled to.
• Adjusts controls of water and fuel feed systems, blowers, and igniters to start up or shut down boilers.
• Controls operation of boiler auxiliary equipment, such as water pumps, heat exchangers, economizers, steam traps, and soot blowers to ensure efficient operation of boilers.
• Adjusts boiler controls to provide steam at specified temperature and pressure for the steam distribution system loads and turbine motors.
• Records malfunctions of equipment, instruments, or controls on log sheet.
• Is responsible for fuel loading and consumption, including coal, natural gas, and fuel oil.
• Operate and monitor air compressors.
• Maintains familiarity with, observes, and trains others in safety, health and environmental requirements.
• Assures that he/she understands the necessity to continuously improve processes and systems under their control and to meet customer needs, both internally and externally.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to operate windows-based computer programs efficiently.
- Ability to change and understand multiple inputs of a proportional integral derivative (PID) control system.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
And if you have these qualifications:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Prefer apprentice program, or completion of technical school.
• Two to four years related experience; Prefer two years’ operating boilers.
• Must possess a valid REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, which includes the gold or black star in the upper corner, indicating it is federally compliant.
• A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate with team members is essential for contributing to a cohesive work environment.
• Successful completion of a background screening process is mandated for all candidates.
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $35.03 - $37.16/HR. Please note that this range is not a guarantee of compensation; final offer amounts may vary based on experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on the date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
