At American Ordnance, powered by Day & Zimmermann, the Project Design Manager IV drives large-scale defense and energy projects from concept to completion. This role leads cross-functional teams, manages scope, cost, and schedule, and serves as the key liaison with federal clients and contractors. Candidates should bring 15+ years of project management experience, strong leadership skills, and a track record of success in complex federal or design-build environments. A Bachelor’s in Engineering or Management is required; PMP or PE preferred.
As the Project Design Manager IV, here's the impactful work you'll do:
- Directs and manages the entire project, provides guidance to subordinate managers, enforces company and project policies, and acts as a primary liaison between AO and the project's contractors & suppliers and the federal client. Leads establishment and communication of project baseline documents with the project team to include execution plan, scope or work, schedule, baseline estimate, and contract summary.
- Establishes, adapts and maintains a change management process for execution against project baseline documents.
- Ability to communicate complex project execution strategy and plans clearly to internal and external stakeholders and lead diverse groups of staff and contractors. Coordinate, manage and lead an ecosystem of internal resources, prime contractors and third-party vendors to accomplish project goals.
- Drive project performance to successful completion within timeline and budget as approved, raising risks to schedule and budget performance early enough to apply required mitigations. Build and enhance reports on project cost and schedule in a Federal EVM environment. Coordinates delivery of services, specificatly engineering & design deliverables, schedule, cost, and change management.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and run program plans and timelines in ambiguous environments with competing priorities and demanding clients.
- Thorough knowledge of contract language relating to all aspects of design, construction, and commissioning to include all phases of work including proposal, scope of work, T&C's, modificaitons and close out.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
- 15+ years of project management experience on major defense and/or energy projects. Federal contract experience on major design-build or design-build-operate-maintain undertakings is a plus. Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and management skills.
- Proven success effectively communicating across all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated history of leadership concerning one-of-a-kind or "pilot" capital projects.
- High competency with personal computers and productivity software, such as Microsoft Office, MS Project and Sharepoint.
- Demonstrated ability to organize a wide range project resources.
And if you have these qualifications:
- BS in Engineering/Management required.
- 15+ years leading execution of capital projects including engineering, procurement and construction experience.
- PMP preferred.
- PE License preferred.
- Must possess a valid REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, which includes the gold or black star in the upper corner, indicating it is federally compliant.
- A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate with team members is essential for contributing to a cohesive work environment.
- Successful completion of a background screening process is mandated for all candidates.
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $124,080 - $186,120. Please note that this range is not a guarantee of compensation; final offer amounts may vary based on experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on the date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
