Civil Project Engineer

We’re looking for a full-time, Civil Project Engineer to join our Mason & Hanger team located in Indian Head, MD

This position is in support of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD) and focused on operations and maintenance (O&M), Capital Investment Projects (CIP) and sustainment, repair, and modernization (SRM) projects in support of approximately 900 buildings. NSWC IHD is also supporting planning and implementation of extensive recapitalization efforts referred to as Energetics Comprehensive Modernization Plan (ECMP). This is a multi-year project which will be based at Indian Head, Maryland.

As the Civil Project Engineer, here’s the work you’ll do:

  • Will utilize experience in support of developing technical requirements of new projects for this client. Able to produce full site development design on small scale projects with limited guidance and assist on medium-to-large scale projects with limited guidance from more senior engineers. Partners with senior engineers to generate project/task vision, to resolve challenging problems, and to ensure/verify successful trajectory of deliverables.
  • Develop technical requirements for renovations and new construction projects in support of the development of design requests for proposal (for Civil discipline) includes construction site visits, stakeholder meetings/interviews.
  • Perform technical reviews of design packages submitted by design firms.
  • Create cost estimates in support of technical requirement development.
  • Create, edit, and check project documents to include site, grading, utility sediment and erosion control, stormwater management, specifications, and support documents (Basis of Design) request for proposals and statement of works.
  • Perform engineering calculations and develop civil specifications.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Ability to research client and local authority requirements. Knowledge of Civil Engineering design and construction as relates to earthwork, utilities, drainage, pavement design, etc. Ability to utilize 2D and 3D design software a plus.
  • Responsible as client facing representative of Civil department representative at internal and external project and client meetings. Developing command of typical department responsibilities is necessary in progression towards more senior engineering positions. Ability to use software tools for hydrology, pavement design, etc.
  • Gaining competency partnering with all design and construction project members. Project deliverables are well coordinated with other disciplines, constructible and punctual. Understands project cost throughout the design. Ability to create redline drawings and effectively communicate with designers, entry level and staff engineers on project requirements.
  • May function as the Responsible Engineer of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of Civil department project deliverables for a project. Supports design and construction phase contract administration using software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu, etc.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high-quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. Maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed. Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within the company.

And if you have these qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 4 to 8 years of relevant experience.
  • LEED AP BD+C Credential (preferred) or GPCP Certification, or ability to obtain LEED AP BD+C Credential.
  • Professional License in Civil Engineering preferred, ability to obtain a PE is required.
  • EXCEL, WORD, PowerPoint, CAD/BIM: Autodesk Civil 3D or MicroStation.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance, current active clearance preferred.
  • Great attitude and team player.
  • Successful completion of background screening process.
  • Limited travel required.

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $87,440 - $131,160. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
