We're looking for an experienced Fire Chief.
The Fire Chief manages fire protection, emergency medical, hazardous materials, rescue, and emergency response readiness for the Hawthorne Army Depot. This position has management authority over Fire Captains, Firefighters, EMTs, and assigned Fire and Emergency Services personnel, including authority to make employment decisions for the department, and exercises independent judgment in directing department operations, emergency response, staffing, training, and compliance.
Position may require security clearance, consistent with contract requirements and government approval. U.S. or Naturalized citizenship is required.
This position is located on site in Hawthorne, NV.
As the Fire Chief, here’s the work you’ll do:
- Lead Fire and Emergency Services operations for assigned fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, rescue, and disaster response activities. Assign personnel and resources to maintain readiness and support effective response to fires, aircraft incidents, medical emergencies, hazardous materials events, and other emergency conditions
- Plan, organize, and coordinate fire prevention, inspection, training, emergency response, evacuation, and readiness programs for the depot. Develop and maintain standing operating procedures, improve systems and procedures, and ensure fire personnel and equipment remain prepared for emergency response
- Manage Fire and Emergency Services personnel, including Fire Captains, Firefighters, EMTs, and other assigned department personnel. Direct work assignments, schedules, training, performance expectations, and readiness requirements; evaluate performance concerns; determine appropriate corrective action; initiate and administer discipline when necessary; and make or recommend hiring, promotion, advancement, qualification progression, suspension, termination, or other employment-status decisions in accordance with Company policy and applicable agreements
- Develop and manage branch budgets, expenditure reviews, activity reports, correspondence, and operational records. Monitor resources and reporting requirements to support cost control, compliance, and informed leadership decision-making.
- Advise depot management on fire protection, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and emergency response matters. Review goals, objectives, inspection findings, and operational performance, and recommend adjustments when required
- officials, and internal stakeholders. Coordinate requirements, resolve issues, support joint response readiness, and participate in technical review activities as assigned.

And if you have these qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience. State of Nevada or DoD Fire Officer I and II certification required.
- 5+ years of firefighter experience, including at least 2 years of fire department supervisory experience and working knowledge of Hawthorne Army Depot layout..
- NIMS 300 and NIMS 400 certifications required. Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector I, and technical fire protection/prevention training may be added later in JDX if desired.
- Valid State of Nevada Class B CDL driver’s license with “F” endorsement required. Must be able to obtain and maintain required government security clearance.
- Must be able to secure and maintain a Secret clearance and perform emergency response leadership duties safely and effectively.
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the hourly pay range for this role is $95,960- $142,440. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
