As the Fire Protection Engineer, here’s the work you’ll do:

  • Very proficient working in CAD platforms to generate construction documents (CAD / BIM)
  • Knowledge of components needed for a complete system. Ability to layout systems, including large and complex systems. Ability to focus on multiple projects at multiple phases of design or complexity. Assumes responsibility for proper design coordination with other disciplines.
  • Working on project calculations (i.e. occupant load calculations, detection system selection, fire pump selection or design, sprinkler system type selection, etc.), specifications and basis of design documents with minimal guidance from engineers
  • Strong working knowledge of the code for primary design discipline (fire alarm or sprinkler) and general knowledge for all aspects of Life Safety. Well-rounded knowledge of client requirements
  • Mentor and train other designers in the department - primarily with on-the-job training & development
  • Perform other duties with senior engineering staff, as assigned Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting employee and customer data.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

  • Highly proficient with department specific production software platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, etc.). Commanding experience in CAD & Drafting standards as well as CAD project setup. Ability to read building drawings and specifications. Command of clash detection processes and tools is required.
  • Understands design process, has strong knowledge of code requirements and client standards. Highly proficient designing M&H typical design projects. Able to layout multiple complex systems within a building, or across multiple buildings with progressively less direction from overseeing engineer. May have primary development in a single discipline (fire alarm or sprinkler) and must also have capability to aid across both disciplines.
  • Able to function as a client facing representative of the life safety department. Position is responsible for coordination of work with other disciplines, proactively coordinating to ensure design layout is constructible and resolving issues identified in clash detection processes. Ability to coordinate and communicate with engineering and architectural disciplines both internally and externally. Position will aid contract administration.
  • Staff at this level should be competent: editing specifications and basis of design documents; directly selecting equipment for projects (fans, pumps, VAVs, fixtures, water heaters, etc.); as well as providing significant aid performing project calculations.
  • Must build relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high-quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out help when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. And maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out assistance where needed. Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within company. Ability to provide direction and guidance to fewer senior staff within department. Data privacy, information security and policy compliance

And if you have these qualifications:

  • Engineering degree from an ABET Accredited engineering program
  • 4 + years of experience
  • NICET Level 3 or higher preferred
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance.
  • At the discretion of the Director/Deputy-Director, the Senior Designer position may be granted to an individual fulfilling all or part of the requirements above and/or for increased years of experience.
  • Great attitude and team player.
  • Successful completion of drug and background screening process.

 

 

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $84,080 - $126,120. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
