We’re looking for a full-time, Graduate Engineer,

to join our Mason and Hanger team located in either Glen Allen, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; or Lexington KY.

As the Graduate Engineer, here’s the work you’ll do:

Works under supervision of more senior engineers to complete project tasks such as whole-building energy modeling, energy and water calculations, and limited report writing. The position represents developing junior staff in training.  

•          Performing whole-building energy simulations using multiple software platforms

•          Perform energy and water calculations using spreadsheets and other software tools.

•          Communicate results of calculations and analyses through writing, charts, and diagrams

•          Coordinates with design disciplines to inform project development and ensure calculations align with design milestones.

•          Perform other duties supporting senior engineering staff, as assigned

•          Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann.  Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data

This role is for you if you have these skills:

•          Developing proficiency with energy modeling software (e.g., eQuest, Trane Trace, Energy Plus, Design Build or similar) complete models LEED Optimize Energy credit, building code compliance, and federal mandate compliance. Some degree of senior engineering oversite/guidance is expected at this level, but the engineer is expected to be largely self-directed.

•          Advancing proficiency in creating spreadsheet-based calculations. Calculations to include the interactions of various system options and overall life-cycle costs of systems. 

•          Advancing knowledge of equipment and systems regularly used within buildings. Advancing understanding of design and construction process.

•          Must be effective in written and verbal communication skills and be able to produce complete sections of complex, engineering reports. Data privacy, information security and policy compliance

•          Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results.  Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities.  And, maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success.  Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed.Ability to take direction and guidance from more senior staff within department

And if you have these qualifications:

 

•          Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.

•          0 - 4 years of experince

•          LEED GA certification preferred.

•          EIT encouraged within 12-months; ability to obtain engineering license or equivalent professional registration.

•          Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $63,840 - $95,760. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
