As the Electrical Designer, here’s the work you’ll do:

  • Create and edit plans and BIM models
  • Perform lighting and other engineering calculations; prepare cost estimates
  • Perform quantity take-offs and cost estimate preparation
  • Select equipment and create schedules, diagrams, and details
  • Support construction phase contract administration activities such as submittal review, answering RFI's, etc.
  • Perform additional tasks as required
  • Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data Handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data

This role is for you if you have these skills:

•    Highly proficient with department production software (Revit, AECOsim, AutoCAD). Able to take a CAD or BIM model that has been prepared by the model manager and complete all aspects of plan preparation including editing Revit families to match project specific requirements, adding devices, circuiting lighting, receptacles, and mechanical equipment to panelboards, editing and creating logical and understandable notes, one-line, riser diagrams, and details with minimal troubleshooting support from others with minimal support. Able to read electrical and telecommunications plans and specifications; Understand components needed for a complete system. Ability to layout a system (small/medium or non-complex systems).
•    Able to complete lighting designs including fixture selection, creating a fixture schedule, designing lighting controls, and using lighting design software (Visual, ElumTools) to determine normal and emergency light fixture locations. Able to complete audio/visual and telecommunication distribution designs for telecom and equipment rooms including cable tray, rack/cabinet layout, backbone and horizontal cabling including cable tray/conduit fill and drop calculations. Knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), ASHRAE 90.1 and other energy codes, and client design criteria (UFCs, OBO Design Standards, GSA), and familiar with Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM).
•    Interpersonal savvy and willingness/ability to communicate effectively (oral and writing) with team members from the electrical department and other disciplines; able to take direction from more senior electrical department team members
•    Position is responsible for coordination of work with other disciplines to ensure design layout is constructible and resolving issues identified in clash detection processes. If assigned as model manager, command of clash detection processes and tools is also required. Model managers are responsible for resolving issues identified in clash detection processes. Position may also support contract administration. May serve as model manager. May serve as Discipline Lead. Some travel may be required.
•    Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities. Maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success. Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed. Other duties as assigned.
•    Data privacy, information security and policy compliance
 

And if you have these qualifications:

• High School or GED; Associate of Science degree (Computer Aided Drafting & Design, Electrical Engineering, EE Technology, or related field) preferred
• 5 - 10 years experience
• Computer Assisted Drafting or similar drafting certification preferred. Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) preferred, LEED AP preferred. BICSI Electronic Safety and Security (ESS) certification preferred, Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) certification
• US citizenship required; ability to obtain a security clearance preferred
• Great attitude and team player.
• Successful completion of drug and background screening process.

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $59, 280-$91,200 This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
