Civil Designer

We’re looking for a full-time, Civil Designer, to join our Mason and Hanger team

located in either Glen Allen, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Huntsville AL; or Lexington KY.

This Civil Designer will be a competent and skilled producer, able to layout basic sites directly within CADD/CIM platform, under the direction of a supervising engineer.

As the Civil Designer, here’s the work you’ll do:

•             Creating and editing drawings (CADD, CIM).

•             Site layout and design (small/medium or non-complex sites).

•             Complying with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and / or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann.

•             Working with engineers and more senior designers.

This role is for you if you have these skills:

•             Highly proficient in department specific production software (AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil3D, Inroads, Geopak, GIS, etc.).  Ability to compile materials for project submittals.  Ability to generate existing conditions files from raw data (survey, TIN, etc.)..

•             Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings and redlines.  Possess a basic understanding grading, drainage, pavements, utility design, etc.  Becoming more familiar supporting calculations and other design tools necessary to support site layout.  Begins to assume project responsibilities, develops working knowledge of client standards and code requirements as well as primary design used on typical M&H projects. 

•             Primarily responsible for civil site development including drainage and utility infrastructure design for commercial, industrial, or governmental projects under the guidance of a Civil Engineer. This position is also responsible for overseeing the implementation of the design prior to construction. This position provides civil engineering services for multiple projects and is a member of various project teams.

•             Ability to coordinate and communicate with engineering and architectural disciplines both internally and externally to ensure design layout is constructible and resolving issues identified in clash detection/ITR processes.  Position may also support contract administration

•             Must build trusted relationships with department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high quality results.  Expected to be a proactive learner, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities.  Maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members in pursuit of overall project success.  Is expected to know their own technical limitations and proactively seek out support where needed.  Ability to apply knowledge of codes and/or client standards.  Data privacy, information security and policy compliance.

And if you have these qualifications:

• High School, GED or Technical Associates Degree
•  5 - 10 years experience
•  US citizenship required; ability to obtain a security clearance preferred
•  Successful completion of drug and background screening process.

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $63,840-$95,760. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
