Job Summary

The Engineering Graduate, Fire and Life Safety supports the design and delivery of site and building projects within a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering environment. Under the direction of experienced professionals, the position contributes to engineering design, analysis, documentation, and coordination while developing technical skills and progressing toward professional licensure.

 

This role will be working out of the office in Lexington, KY or Virginia Beach, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Apply fundamental engineering principles to perform calculations, analyses, and technical evaluations supporting design decisions. Assist senior engineers with preparation of technical deliverables for verification, to maintain quality and compliance with project requirements. 50%
  • Develop, update, and coordinate engineering drawings, specifications, models, and related documentation using approved engineering standards, applicable codes, and project procedures. Support accurate and timely completion of design deliverables. 20%
  • Assist in the selection, specification, and scheduling of equipment and systems based on project criteria and engineering judgment. 10%
  • Support construction phase activities including review of RFIs and submittals, and providing technical input to resolve issues noted in the field in a timely manner. 10%
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to contribute to design development, quality control, and timely project execution. 10%

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Applies foundational engineering knowledge, industry codes, and standards while developing understanding of project lifecycles, government contract requirements, constructability, and cost considerations.
  • Demonstrates growing proficiency in engineering design and analysis tools (e.g., CADD/BIM/Revit and discipline-specific software) to perform calculations, support system layout, and assist with equipment selection.
  • Utilizes developing engineering judgment to complete assigned tasks with increasing independence, while recognizing limitations and appropriately seeking guidance from senior staff.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, supporting design coordination, construction phase activities (e.g., submittals, RFIs), and overall project delivery.
  • Exhibits accountability, quality focus, and professional growth by reviewing own work, maintaining compliance with data security and company standards, and proactively building technical skills and team relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited) Required
  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited) Preferred
  • 3 months of relevant engineering internship, co-op assignment, research project, academic design project, or related engineering support experience. Required

 

In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $73,760 - $110,640. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
