Position Description
Our team is looking for an experienced EDD Canine Handler for our SOC team in Austin, TX
Under the direction of the Canine Operations and Training Manager, the Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) Handler conducts explosive detection screening using an assigned canine at client locations in Austin, TX and other CONUS sites. Responsibilities include screening aircraft, vehicles, luggage, and facilities; maintaining the care, housing, and training of the canine; and completing all required logs, reports, and certifications. The Handler must communicate clearly with stakeholders, keep management informed of canine-related matters, and consistently represent SOC in a professional manner. Travel is required.
As an EDD Canine Handler, here is the work you will do:
- Conduct explosive detection operations with the assigned canine, working as a certified team to identify explosive odors at client worksites in accordance with mission requirements and safety protocols.
- Participate in daily training to maintain deployment readiness and meet client standards; accurately completes all training logs, screening documentation, and administrative reports.
- Ensure the daily health and welfare of the assigned canine, including feeding, watering, grooming, and behavior observation; promptly reports any concerns to supervisory staff.
- Provide safe and secure transport of the canine between home and job sites, including coordination of air travel for deployments to remote venues as required.
- Attend required training sessions related to security operations, program procedures, and canine deployment standards to maintain readiness and compliance.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
- Knowledge of canine anatomy, physiology, behaviors and handling techniques
- Thorough understanding of local, state and federal regulations pertaining to Explosive Detection Canines
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and decision making
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team
- The ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all stakeholders
And these qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of K9 Handler experience. Prior law enforcement and/or military detection dog experience preferred.
- Must pass and maintain applicable contract testing certification/s, training and security clearances; Must pass background check and drug screening
- Valid US Drivers License
- Must possess a valid US Passport
In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $30.50-$35/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
