Job Summary
We’re looking for a full-time, staff Accountant 3 to join our American Ordnance team located in Middletown, IA. The Accountant 3 applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
As the Accountant 3, here’s the work you’ll do:
- General Ledger & Compliance: Maintain integrity of the general and subsidiary ledgers in compliance with GAAP and cost accounting standards; prepare, review, and approve journal entries to support accurate and timely month-end close.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, operating assets, invested capital, backlog, and forecasts; compile data for sales, audits (DCAA, corporate, internal/external), FCA reports, and U.S. Census Bureau surveys.
- Account Reconciliation & Controls: Reconcile balance sheet accounts, goods receipts, and payable invoice clearing accounts, ensuring discrepancies are resolved and financial records remain accurate.
- Contract Billing & Invoicing: Prepare and distribute contract status reports and invoices (prime contracts, third-party sales, progress payments, cost-reimbursable contracts, rent, and utilities); process payments, enter invoices into government (PIEE) and third-party portals, and assist with customer allocations and collections.
- Contract Oversight & Closeout: Monitor contracts to ensure billing accuracy, validate SAP data, support the contracts department with system issues, and oversee contract closeout activities, verifying compliance and preparing quarterly reports.
- Customer & Administrative Support: Administer PIEE employee access, review travel expenses and miscellaneous receipts, and respond promptly to internal and external customer requests in collaboration with program managers and directors.

- Highly trained in problem definition, data collection, fact-finding, and drawing valid conclusions.
- High level of proficiency in Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, SAP, and other software programs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex accounting issues.

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Great attitude and team player.
- Successful completion of background and drug screening process.

Compensation and Benefits
In compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $86,160.00 - $129,240.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
